Dear runners, there are times when we have to stop in order to start again with even greater determination. This is one of those times. In the knowledge that health is the most precious gift of all and must be protected above all else, the 21st edition of Padova Marathon has been postponed from 19 April to Sunday 20 September 2020.
Running is joy, passion, enthusiasm. But it can’t be for now. Now, as Veneto is facing one of the most terrible moments in its recent history, we have decided to send a strong message, through a difficult but necessary choice. We have tried to hold out, hoping that we could finally put the current emergency behind us. However, once we realised that this was no longer possible, we got to work to set another date. It was never our intention to cancel the event, because we are convinced that sport has a fundamental role to play in order to get back on track after this dramatic time.
Padua will get back on track, as will its splendid surrounding area. An area that, despite being injured, is eager to get back on its feet, thanks also to the marathon. This is why we will not be changing anything in the formula that has allowed Padova Marathon to grow over the last few years.
We are well aware that a decision such as this inevitably brings inconveniences for all those concerned. We know how many kilometres you have run in recent months, and we have been with you every step of the way. We certainly don’t want all this to be in vain. We are therefore pleased to inform you that you will automatically be registered for the edition to be held on Sunday, 20 September 2020. If you are unable to take part (although we strongly hope to see you cross the finishing line in Prato della Valle, one of Europe’s largest and most stunning squares!), you have until 31 May to decide whether to postpone your registration until the 2021 edition. All of this will be completely free of charge.
We promise each and every one of you that we will do our utmost to give back that joy that is currently denied us. The motto of the 21st edition of Padova Marathon is “All runners are winners”. A motto that now more than ever before we wish to proclaim and emphasise as we announce the new date. Because with Padova Marathon 2020 we want for us all to be winners, each one in his own way. We will get back on track even stronger than before. Ready to hug one another in Prato della Valle once more, with smiles on our faces, on Sunday 20 September.
